DES MOINES, Iowa, July 17 (UPI) -- The Iowa State Fair said online voters have spoken and plans for a butter sculpture of late entertainer Michael Jackson at the fair have been canceled. Gary Slater, chief executive and manager of the fair, said the online vote quashed the plans, with 65.24 percent of voters choosing "no" on the Jackson sculpture plans and only 34.76 percent voting in favor of the butter tribute to the King of Pop. I thought it was important for you to know the latest election results.
WINTER PARK, Fla. (AP) -- A Florida dentist is being sued for allegedly dropping tools down the throat of an elderly patient -- twice. Relatives of 90-year-old Charles Gaal Jr. recently filed the suit in circuit court accusing Dr. Wesley Meyers of negligence. An answering message at Meyers' office in Winter Park said Saturday that he was on vacation. He did not reply to a message from The Associated Press seeking comment. The lawsuit says the doctor dropped an ''implant screwdriver tool'' in 2006 and a ''mini-wrench'' in 2007. He went back to that dentist? And he's not embarrassed to admit it? Reject the suit.
FRIDAY, JULY 17, 2009 BURGESS HILL, England, July 16 (UPI) -- Parents of children at a British school said young students were traumatized when school staff staged an "alien" abduction of a teacher. The parents said teachers at Southway Junior School in Burgess Hill, England, terrified students, some as young as 7, by faking a spaceship crash near classrooms and having costumed aliens kidnap a teacher, the Daily Mail reported Thursday. Just wait. Some cultural awareness group in Britain will claim that the teachers' actions insulted the alien community and subjected it to ridicule. Watch for fines.
(AP) A former Colorado Department of Revenue supervisor says love for her ex-boyfriend led her to steal $11 million in unclaimed tax refunds from the state. The ex-boyfriend, Hysear Randell, is on trial in Denver this week on charges of theft, forgery, computer crime and racketeering. If this had been Obama's federal government, no one would have noticed $11-million.
